I hope you’re doing well! It’s South Asian Heritage Month, a time to celebrate our culture, history, and, of course, our food.
Many of my clients share a South Asian background and have faced challenges in the past with restrictive diets since most don’t cater for Asian traditional foods.
Have you struggled to get healthier and lose weight and keep it off?
I want you to know that it’s not your fault if the popular diets haven’t worked for you – they can be incredibly tough to stick to and are often unsustainable. When following diets that don’t align with your traditional meals, you have to avoid certain foods. You end up feeling like you’re missing out, which makes you feel deprived.
These diets can also be time consuming as you have to prepare separate meals for yourself and your family.
Additionally, it becomes challenging when you don’t know what to eat during parties, weddings, or when eating out. Many diets don’t provide guidance on what to do over celebrations such as Diwali, making them difficult to follow.
Over the last 11 years, I’ve been guiding my clients to lose weight while still enjoying their traditional meals. Below, I share some photos of my clients’ meals.
As you can see, you can still enjoy your traditional dishes in a healthier and guilt-free way. Yes, you can still eat grains like rice and rotis, eat delicious curries, and indulge in your favourite snacks! What you need to do is learn how to make swaps to make the foods healthier and still taste good.
For many vegetarians, figuring out the right protein foods can be tricky. But don’t worry as you don’t need protein shakes and can get plant-based protein from real, affordable everyday foods.
