As you probably know from my previous newsletters, I love smoothies, and these are made daily at our home.
Smoothies are super quick and easy to make and all you need is a blender. It need not be an expensive blender either.
I wanted to share with you in this short video how your home made smoothies are so much healthier than buying milk shakes.
Did you know that a home made strawberry smoothie made with just 4 ingredients has 16 grams of sugar? These are natural sugars in the milk, oats and berries.
A medium strawberry milkshake from McDonalds in comparison has 57 grams of sugar and this is a mix of both added and natural sugars.
The home made smoothie is also healthier, because it does not contain any preservatives or flavourings. Also, it is higher in fibre, as I add in oats and flaxseeds. It has 4 grams of fibre, versus 0.6 grams of fibre in the McDonalds milk shake.
Now, you may be thinking, I don’t go to McDonalds, but are you or your family having milkshakes at the cinema, when eating out or buying them from supermarkets.
If you are, you should read the labels to see what ingredients have been used and how much sugar they contain.
