Do you love Chocolate but feel guilty when having it?  

When we think of chocolate most of us think of the processed bars of milk chocolate that are easily available, which are high in sugar and have a small quantity of cacao.

The better alternative is dark chocolate which has a higher cacao content, less sugar, and is a good source of antioxidants and minerals.

Most of us find after a piece of chocolate the mood is elevated and this can be attributed to certain ingredients found in cacao that act as stimulants.  Listed below are some of the ingredients that cacao contain and their benefits.  

Antioxidants Cacao is high in antioxidants that make it a superfood.  
MagnesiumImportant for the heart, muscle and nerve functions
Iron: cacao is a good vegan source of iron for your blood
Chromium: balances blood sugar 
Zinc: for your immunity
Theobromine: This is a mild stimulant that enhances your mood. Serotonin: Increases the serotonin levels creating sense feeling good.

As cacao has many benefits you can enjoy it GUILT FREE if eaten as close to it’s natural state as possible.  Opt for small portions of dark chocolate instead of the milk chocolate, which is high in sugar. 

Do try this delicious recipe that I am sharing with you.

Cranberry Chocolate Balls

1 cup almond flour

1/2 cup shredded coconut

1/4 cup dried cranberries, chopped finely

2 tbsp honey

2-3 tbsp water

1/2-cup cacao powder

50 grams dark chocolate – to coat the balls

Blend the almond flour, shredded coconut and cacao powder for 30 seconds in the food processor.  Scrape the sides of the food processor and then add the honey, cranberries and water and blend for another 30 – 45 seconds until it forms a thick paste.  Do not add too much water or it will be a very wet mixture.  

Then take a small amount (about 1 tsp) and roll into balls.  Will make about 14 cranberry balls.

Melt the dark chocolate over a pan of hot water.  Roll the balls in the chocolate mix and then place the balls in a plate lined with baking paper.  Refrigerate to let the chocolate set, then store in a tightly sealed container in the fridge.
